Saltroad Expectations & Standards

The standards Saltroad expects of its therapists, from HCPC compliance to keeping commitments to families.

In order to ensure that we provide families with consistently high standards of support, we have some expectations of all of our therapists, outlined below.

Uphold HCPC Standards: all Saltroad therapists must be HCPC registered and are therefore expected to understand and adhere to their responsibilities and requirements as per the HCPC Standards of conduct, performance and ethics, and the standards of proficiency for Speech and Language Therapists, at all times.

Maintain an Honest, Accurate & Complete Profile: your profile information, including your services, prices and availability should always be accurate, up-to-date and an honest reflection of your current skills and experience.

This ensures that we don't match on incorrect information or provide families with incorrect information. Incomplete profiles will not be considered for matching with families.

Appropriate Self-Assignment: we place a lot of reliance on "self-matching", i.e. therapists putting themselves forward for referrals which are suited to their skills and experience and therefore not putting themselves forward for referrals which are not well suited.

You put yourself forward via your Personalised Referrals page in your Saltroad account, so this is very much in your hands.

This is covered directly in the HCPC standards:

"You must only practise in the areas where you have the appropriate knowledge, skills and experience to meet the needs of a service user safely and effectively."

Keep your Commitment to Families: when you've been assigned a referral, we tell the family there is a therapist available and we match you up.

It's incredibly disappointing for them if you do not stick to this engagement and end up passing a job back to be reassigned at that stage.

The one exception would be if there was some unknown that you discover on your intro call that means you are no longer suitable for the job.

Accept 99% of Intro Calls: exceptional circumstances aside, if your availability is set and your calendar is connected, nobody should ever be able to book a call at a time that does not suit. Intro call requests should ideally be responded to on the same day received, and certainly within 24 hours.

Attend 99% of all Scheduled Appointments: exceptional circumstances aside, if you have agreed to meet or speak with someone on a specific day and time, you should be there.

Reschedule, not Cancel: there will of course be times when something unavoidable means not being able to fulfil a scheduled appointment.

In these cases, you should be contacting the customer to explain the need to reschedule, not just cancelling the appointment and leaving them wondering what is happening.

Sell Therapy Sessions in Min. Blocks of 3: aside from the increase in guaranteed income, we've seen that booking families in for at least 3 sessions:

  • Reduces the purchasing process and admin

  • Ensures more time to build a relationship with the family

  • Gives families more time to see the impact of intervention

  • Increases the chances of successfully supporting the child

  • Usually leads to a much longer engagement, and a higher number of sessions in total (as appropriate)

  • Provides more predictability around therapist capacity & income

Upfront Payments: we work on the basis of all services being paid for in advance of being delivered.

There are too many potential downsides and complications in having to chase clients up after a service has been delivered. And if they have not made payment, then we cannot pay the therapist.

Timely Discharging of Clients: this is expected best practice from a clinical point of view, but we also need to know how many clients are actively on the caseload, clients who need reassigned a new therapist etc. as soon as possible.

This should ideally be done as soon as a client is discharged (and have been informed they have been discharged), but if you have any outstanding for this past month, please do so as soon as possible.

NQPs Supervision: all NQPs must have supervision in place until competencies are signed off. We can help facilitate this, but it is not optional.

Note: Our full Therapist Terms of Use cover the detailed technical and legal aspects of our platform, our service and how we operate.
