Understanding Saltroad's Fees

Details of Saltroad's fee model and how it compares to other ways of working as a Speech and Language Therapist.

Saltroad's fee model is very simple and straightforward, and matches the same arrangement you would typically see in any traditional private speech therapy company.

On Saltroad, you set your service prices and always take home 80% of that price, on all bookings.

In a typical Associate role, up to 50% of the client fees go to the clinic, and as a salaried employee, even more of those fees disappear before they ever reach the therapist delivering the service.

Here's how Saltroad compares:

Each of these options have their own pros and cons - but on Saltroad, you have the most control over your prices and earnings and more of the fees end up in your pocket.

"Wouldn’t I keep 100% of my fees if I went completely solo?"

Yes, of course. All therapists have the option to do everything themselves and keep all of the fees for themselves.

But comparing Saltroad to keeping 100% of everything by doing everything yourself, is not the correct comparison. As outlined above, the direct comparison is to employed and Associate roles.

And it's important to note that going fully solo doesn't really mean keeping 100% once the real costs are in.

You’d cover your own marketing to find customers, software and tools to manage operations, payment systems and processing fees - plus the unpaid hours spent on admin, chasing payments, dealing with support requests and keeping your diary full.

Our flat 20% covers all of that, sends you a steady stream of matched referrals, and puts a team and community behind you. Most therapists find they take home more, with far less hassle and stress, than they would going it completely alone.

But that is absolutely your choice to make.

"Membership sites like ASLTIP don't charge commission"

Saltroad and ASLTIP are not directly comparable. Comparing us would be the same as comparing any large private speech therapy clinic to ASLTIP.

These are clearly different types of organisation, with different purposes.

As an optional, private membership organisation for SLTs working independently, ASLTIP's core purpose is to support therapists on their journey into the private sector and create a community where solo therapists can get support from others.

They do not provide any service to clients, provide no service or tools or processes for therapists to deliver therapy, nor do they take any responsibility for the work delivered by therapists.

So there is nothing for them to charge fees on.

And to provide some context on the different scales we work at, Saltroad has as many website visitors in a month as ASLTIP gets in 12-18 months.

Passing On Saltroad Fees to Clients

For those of you already working in independent practice, one thing to highlight is that therapists should NOT increase their "normal" prices by 20% (or any other amount) to cover the cost of Saltroad's fees.

Our 20% fee is the cost to you, the therapist - for all the services and benefits we provide.

We will be proactively contacting therapists who offer lower prices on their own websites or via other websites compared to Saltroad to ask them to resolve this.
